I take a completely different approach to financial planning than most advisors and planners out there. I blend mindfulness techniques (inner work) with core financial planning methods (outer work) to help women undergo a complete mindful money transformation.
Here’s why:
First, most financial advice is rooted in fear and scarcity:
- Only spend money on your needs, not wants.
- Live frugally and don’t buy expensive stuff.
- Stick to a very restrictive budget.
- Save aggressively and sacrifice today so you can hope to have a better future.
- Money is limited, so hold on to every dollar that comes your way.
- You need an expert to manage your money or else you will lose it.
I believe Wealth Begins Within™. If you have a fear of lack or believe that abundance is in short supply, you will never be wealthy. The best-designed financial plan in the world will be useless if you haven’t tackled the inner work of money and believe wholeheartedly that you are worthy of abundance and prosperity.
Second, while the typical financial planning process is thoroughly tactical, it isn’t holistic. Financial Planners are wonderful and most are fiduciaries (which means they commit to acting in their client’s best interest), but I take an alternative approach.
Financial professionals are trained to identify and understand that their clients have limiting beliefs or biases, but most don’t do the intense work of transforming those beliefs. They lean on benchmarks and rules of thumb to help their clients set financial goals and establish milestones.
But who knows if those benchmarks or rules actually align with the vision for that client’s life today or forty years from now? Finally, the process depends on restrictive budgeting and making sacrifices in order to stick to the plan. I know there's a better way to achieve financial security and build wealth.
